Meet the Owner
Meet Nerissa McCollin, the owner of Hands By Rissa LLC. As a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist, transformation coach, and professional dancer, Nerissa brings a unique blend of expertise and passion to her work. Hands By Rissa was established in 2019, but the LLC officially came to life in 2021 during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Understanding the need for normalcy, connection, and self-care during such an unprecedented period, Nerissa made it her mission to help people reconnect with themselves and regain a sense of balance.
Nerissa's journey into the healthcare field was inspired by her experiences as an athlete. Encountering less-than-ideal bedside manners from healthcare professionals, she was driven to offer something better—genuine care and compassion. This determination led her to pursue a career where she could make a real difference in people’s lives.
Nerissa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Biology and a minor in Mathematics, a Professional Certificate in Musical Theatre, and an Associate of Occupational Studies in Massage Therapy. Her specialties include Sports Massage and Pregnancy Massage, and she is also skilled in Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, Chair Massage, and Reflexology.
Beyond just offering massage services, Nerissa is passionate about educating her clients on how their bodies work and providing accessible, low-cost options to enhance both their physical and mental well-being. She invites you to ask questions, book appointments, and embark on your self-care journey with her.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After introducing myself professionally, I engage with the client to understand their specific needs and preferences for the service. This conversation includes in-depth questions about their medical history, their last massage, and their overall experience with massage therapy. My goal is to gather as much information as possible to tailor the session to their unique needs.
Once the client decides to book a session, we set a date and time, and I require a non-refundable deposit to secure the appointment. I then send intake forms to gather detailed medical history, which helps me create a personalized session plan.
During the session, I regularly check in with the client to ensure that the pressure is comfortable and meets their expectations. Clients are always properly draped for privacy, and they are encouraged to ask any questions they have about the massage or the techniques I’m using—whether it’s effleurage, compression, petrissage, tapotement, trigger point therapy, PNF techniques, or tense and relax methods. I make it a priority to help them understand how these techniques address their specific concerns.
After the session, I take the time to discuss aftercare recommendations and schedule their next appointment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, a Professional Certificate in Musical Theatre from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, NY, and an Associate of Occupational Studies in Massage Therapy from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in New York, NY. I am also proud to be a member of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), an honor awarded to students who excel in their field.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Growing up as a dancer in Trinidad and Tobago, I experienced my fair share of injuries. When I was 10, I developed inflammation in both of my knees, and the doctor suggested that I stop dancing for twelve weeks. At that young age, I felt that the doctor had no compassion for my feelings, dismissing dance as not being a sport. This experience ignited a passion in me to find a profession where I could not only provide medical assistance but also show empathy and understanding to fellow athletes.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, including cancer patients, the elderly, pregnant women, athletes, and the everyday working adult.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
In my free time, I’ve discovered a passion for diamond painting, a color-by-numbers activity designed for adults. Introduced to me by a friend, it involves using a stylus, glue pad, gem tray, and a variety of colored gems to create intricate designs. Depending on the size of the portrait and the number of colors, the process can involve anywhere from 10 to 40 different colors. I recently completed a painting with 22 colors, which took me about a week to finish. The process of creating these beautiful pictures brings a deep sense of calm, providing a peaceful escape from whatever challenges life may bring.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When seeking a provider, it’s essential to find someone who is empathetic to your situation or condition. I go out of my way to ensure that my clients know I genuinely care about their well-being. I always remind my clients that if a service provider doesn’t create a safe and supportive space for them, they should continue searching until they find someone who will.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Customers should ask themselves about their budget for the cost of service, additional charges, tip, and taxes. Massage therapy is a service that needs to be on a continuous basis.
